A Look at my Living Room

Hi Friends!  I throught I would show an updated post of my living room.  Here is a shot of the room last spring:

Toward the end of last summer we painted the walls a darker khaki (Harvest Brown by Behr), which makes this large space feel a little more cozy...

One of my dear friends questioned the front hall light fixture, thinking it's style did not necessarily "blend" with the rest of my stuff. I love the fixture, though.  The area rug is from Ballard; loveseat from Ethan Allen...and I have previously posted about my antique wingback chairs (here)...I have two opposite the loveseat...

I like to use the piano top kind of like a mantle.  I really try to keep it relatively simple, but it often becomes a spot for favorite objects or flowers...

The prints were free from the Pacific Coast Triathlon-I just put them in substantial frames.  Antique Japanese fishing floats in the silver bowl, and IKEA colored glass vases are friends with a giant orchid that I bought myself for my birthday (it's huge; only part of it is shown here and it has been blooming since early November).

The little ocean giclee is by Paulette Adams.

I have been considering painting the inside of the front door white.  Any thoughts?

I have really been loving my new entry mirror... and that long spikey looking thing in the silver pot on the antique dresser is an amarilis about to bloom...

Below is a down pillow that my mother made for me with some fabric that I purchased.  I simply drew out a sketch of how I wanted it to look and she replicated it beautifully.  I wish I had the patience and spatial skills to sew like she does.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hello there Stephanie! I like the changes you've made. As long as you love the entry lighting, then it should stay. I think it brings an collected, eclectic feel to the room.

  2. Looks so pretty. Thanks for sharing with the newbie party. Your fresh changes are great.

  3. Hi Stephanie!

    Your living room is lovely!
The color you chose for the walls reminds me of the color of wet sand and it is perfect.
I LoVe the pillow design and the fabrics you chose for it, how fortunate to have a mother who sews for you.
The mirror is wonderful and reflects the light beautifully.
    Well done, classic & beautiful!

  4. Your home looks lovely with the changes you've made. I would vote for keeping the door as is. It provides an anchor to your entryway with the high ceilings. Just my opinion since you asked.
I'm your newest follower and hope you'll stop by for a visit.

  5. What a lovely room. I love that large mirror, it's beautiful. Oh, and I'd keep the door the original color. I think it adds a nice contrast to the light walls.

  8. The light above the entry wall adds charater and it says who you are! I have an antique light that was in my mother-in-law's home. It would probably be the same design idea you were going for in your home. I have not decided if I will put it at our entry way or not.I have a very small home and the entry way and formal lv rm are all in one. enjoying your web page. thank you
